Message from High Commissioner Kati Csaba

Message from High Commissioner Kati Csaba

Akwaaba, bienvenue and welcome to the website of the High Commission of Canada in Accra, Ghana, also serving Sierra Leone and Togo.

I am honoured to represent Canada as High Commissioner, leading a dynamic team of Ghanaian and Canadian staff delivering programs in development cooperation, political and public affairs, trade, defence, security, immigration, border security, consular affairs and administration. In Sierra Leone, we are supported by an Honorary Consul in Freetown.

Ghana and Canada share a bond more than sixty years strong, throughout which Canada has proudly supported Ghana’s increasing prosperity, peace and development. Today, our relationship has evolved into one that is dynamic and multi-faceted.

  • Canada and Ghana work together to promote human rights, democracy, gender equality and other shared values, including through multilateral fora such as the United Nations, the Commonwealth and La Francophonie, and initiatives such as the Media Freedom Coalition.
  • Canadian development cooperation supports Ghana’s pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals. Through international assistance, Canada funds government, civil society and multilateral partners’ efforts to reduce poverty and inequality, improve health and promote economic growth, while also encouraging innovation, integrating climate action and seeking to establish new financial partnerships. We will continue to emphasize gender equality and women’s empowerment, in line with Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy.
  • Our commercial ties are strong and growing, particularly in mining, infrastructure, clean technologies and renewable energy, agriculture and education. The mission’s Trade Commissioner Service works with Canadian companies that wish to do business in Ghana, Sierra Leone, or Togo. The Canada Ghana Chamber of Commerce supports its members to expand their opportunities for investment in the country.
  • Through the Elsie Initiative for Women in Peace Operations, Canada partners with the Ghana Armed Forces to develop innovative approaches to increasing the meaningful participation of uniformed women in UN peacekeeping. Implementation of the Elsie Initiative is one important element of our budding defence relationship.

Canada is equally proud of its relations with Sierra Leone and Togo, with whom Canada established diplomatic ties in 1961 and 1960 respectively. Canada has provided decades of assistance in support of peace and development in both countries, and continues to view Sierra Leone and Togo as treasured friends and partners.
